Vent Not Turning On - Over-the-Range Microwave

Possible Solutions

Is the vent turned on? 

Ensure the vent or exhaust fan is turned on and the right speed is selected.  The directions for turning the vent on/off and changing varies by the model number,

Refer to the Owner's Manual for specific information about the vent fan, not all models have three speeds.

To protect the microwave oven, if the temperature from the range or cooktop below the microwave oven gets too hot, the vent fan will automatically turn on at low speed. It may stay on for up to 1 hour to cool the microwave oven. When this occurs, the vent fan cannot be turned off. If the vent fan pad is touched during automatic fan operation, "Auto Fan is on, fan speed will remain on until heat is no longer sensed" will scroll in the display as a reminder.

The vent fan is also the cooling fan and will start at low speed when any non-sensor cooking function begins or at medium speed when any sensor cooking function begins. It will remain on until the cooking function ends.

To turn vent fan on/off: 

Refer to the Owner's Manual for specific information about the vent fan, not all models have three speeds.

Touch Vent Fan pad once for high, twice for medium, three times for low or four times for off.

Reset power to the product:

  • Power unit down by turning off the circuit breaker(s) for one (1) minute.
  • Power unit up by turning on the circuit breaker(s) or replacing the fuse.
  • Verify microwave operation.
  • Monitor the microwave for one (1) minute to ensure proper operation.

NOTE: Do not continue to attempt to operate the microwave if the circuit breaker or fuse opens again. Disconnect power cord, turn off circuit breaker, or remove the fuse that controls the appliance.
